Program Sustainability Fellow

The Program Sustainability Fellow is integral to assessing that we are making a difference with our programs.

In this position, you will work with our partner schools and University of Alabama research partners to evaluate our program’s effectiveness, using research tools that have been specifically developed for our programs. You will also be at the forefront of ensuring sustainability across programs at schools who operate our programs remotely or independently.

What you’ll do: 

  • Oversee evaluation of program by collecting BMI, child-reported surveys, home addresses, and standardized test scores, in partnership with University of Alabama research team
  • Manage program evaluation data, including communication with schools, research partners, data entry and reporting, and data storage
  • Maintain transition school communication schedule; assisting schools who are operating independently to continue the program effectively
  • Work with schools selected as a pilot program for our Schoolyard Roots upcoming consulting package to bring garden-based learning to more schools
  • Develop and implement feedback surveys for the Schoolyard Roots published curriculum to assess its impact
  • Oversee University of Alabama UH405 students administer Garden Leaders and farm stands in transition schools
  • Assist with community listening sessions on how food deserts affect our children’s’ lives
  • Track and report on strategic plan metrics

 

What we’re looking for:

We are looking for staff members who can actively help us achieve our goal of bringing a garden to every school in Alabama. Additionally, strong candidates will demonstrate the following:

  • Believe in making our community a better place, through food
  • Undergraduate or Master’s degree
  • Extremely detail-oriented
  • Superb knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with formal research studies, managing large data sets (preferred)
  • Background knowledge in gardening (preferred)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with diverse groups of people
  • Able to oversee multiple projects concurrently and remain organized
  • Be self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Physically capable of performing the physically demanding tasks required in gardening, working outside for the majority of the day, and be able to carry 40 lbs.
