What We Do
Gardens
Fresh-air learning labs. Vegetables, fruits, flowers, and pollinator plants. Living laboratories — pollinators, decomposers, plants at every life stage. Also a calm outdoor space during the school day.
Curriculum
Alabama State Standards-based. Science, math, reading, writing, social studies, health, and the arts. Teachers say students connect classroom learning to the real world more readily.
Health and nutrition
Plant, nurture, harvest, and cook. Students are more willing to try new fruits and vegetables. Cooking and tasting days are a highlight.
Social-emotional learning
Curiosity, joy, empathy, stewardship. Teachers report more responsibility, self-control, independence, and teamwork.
Belonging
All students should have access to joy, love, knowledge, and safety. Diversity in the garden creates resilience — the same is true for the community.
